YOUTH BOYS 5/6 and 7/8 SUMMER TRAVEL TEAMS SET THE BAR HIGH IN UTAH!
2010-06-18
SCLA's first Youth Boys 5/6 and 7/8 summer travel teams make an impressive showing in Utah! This summer brings a new level of play to Southlake Carroll's Youth Boys lacrosse program. For the first year, SCLA has put together 5/6 and 7/8 Youth Boys Summer travel teams.
Both teams traveled to Park Cities, Utah on June 16 to spend a few days testing their lacrosse skills against other serious lacrosse competitors. The Southlake boys have set the bar high and have made very impressive showings every time they step on the field.
The 7/8 Dragons won their first game against the McGlone Panthers (Denver) in overtime play (4-3). Tim Barnhart (8th grade) made it look easy when he won a face-off, drove the ball down the field and scored the winning goal in overtime for the Dragons. Reports were it was an amazing play by Barnhart.
The 7/8 Dragons kept the heat on for their second game against the Vipers from Fort Collins, Colorado. The Vipers barely edged out the Dragons with a 3-2 final score. In their third competition, the 7/8 Dragons were determined to continue on a strong footing and beat Utah (3-1).
On Saturday, the 7/8 Dragons had a tougher challenge against the Arizona Cobras but weren't able to pull out a win, losing to the Cobras (10-5). However, they quickly recovered in their 5th game and beat "All Utah" (4-2). The 7/8 Dragons ended their tournament in Utah with a 3-2 record.
5/6 SCLA Dragons also made an equally impressive showing. The 5/6 Dragons first game ended in a shut-out win against the Draper Dogs (Utah), with a final score of 6-0. Dragons goalie, Luke Millican, (6th grade) was credited with the shut-out.
They kept the Dragon fire flaming hot and, in their second game, followed up with a strong win against Brighton (Utah), taking the win at 6-1. The 5/6 Dragons easily faced down the Orange County Crush with a 6-1 win and followed that with yet another 6-1 win against the Arizona Cobras.
The only disappointment of the trip for the 5/6 Dragons was when the Utah Stars pulled off a last second goal, ending the game at 3-2. The 5/6 Dragons final record for the Utah tournament was 4-1.
SCLA's Youth Boys 5/6 and 7/8 Summer 2010 Dragons made a very strong showing in Utah and established a respectable reputation for themselves and SCLA. The boys played a physical game, challenging their competition with every play. When the Dragons first stepped on the field they surprised and stunned their opponents with their lacrosse. There’s just no messing around with SCLA’s 5/6 and 7/8 Boys Summer 2010 travel teams. They are a group of talented young boys who worked hard for the trip and played hard for the team and themselves.
Congratulations 5/6 and 7/8 Youth Boys Summer 2010 Teams! Job well done.
